Education can be beneficial for young ladies.
At nearby Lowewood Academy, girls over the age of 18 are taught a wide range of subjects, using old-fashioned methods. A high standard of academic achievement is not required, but girls are expected to make every effort to learn. The school ethos, however, encourages friendship and a spirit of playfulness amongst its pupils, and the atmosphere can be almost boisterous at times. Jessica Davies, our current Head Girl, often remarks that it reminds her of her first school, St Trinians (before it burned down).
Most importantly, girls are taught to respect their elders and betters, and the school does not hesitate to employ strict disciplinary measures and good old-fashioned corporal punishment to facilitate the learning experience.
A number of visiting Masters belong to the faculty and are available to teach, depending on the size of classes.
There is a strict uniform dress code and uniforms must be worn at all times, but Lord Fawcett’s endowment can be provided to assist distressed girls.
Overnight accommodation is available, and the dormitories are very comfortable, offering many facilities for relaxation after a hard day's lessons.
In addition to academic lessons, girls are taught the sporting disciplines, etiquette, domestic science and housewifery.
Lowewood Academy operates a house system (The houses are names after friends of the 6th Lord Fawcett - Dashwood, Byron, Wilkes and Sandwich) and a prefect system to demonstrate to the girls the values of strict hierarchy and competition. It is true to say that a Lowewood Academy education proves of value to a girl throughout her days!
