The seat of the Fawcetts

Sir Geoffrey Fawcett became the 1st Lord Fawcett of Bath in 1500 following his successful and bloody campaign against the Welsh in the Welsh Marches. His manor encompassed lands alongside the river Avon and the spoils of his campaigns added lands around Monmouth and Hereford. His marriage to Rose Ap Iorweth of Clun in 1505 resulted in one son, Roger.

The family seat was on the banks of the river Severn and looked over the Welsh mountains, to quote the first Lord Fawcett ‘so I can keep an eye on the buggers’.

The 2nd Lord Fawcett (1505 – 1604) continued his father’s suspicion of the Welsh, insisting that all Welsh maids in his home underwent regular ‘honesty’ checks. His checks were kept in check by his wife, the formidable Lady Clarissa, famed in three counties for her swing. His death at the age of 99 came as a great surprise to him and his final words were ‘of course I can still drink 15 cups of porter. Arghghghg.’

The lives of the 3rd and 4th and 5th Lord Fawcett’s were uneventful. They lived well, hunted and wenched and were generally considered to be valuable members of the local community.*

*Depending on who you spoke to. The members of the community whose daughters were debauched had slightly less generous memories.
The 5th Lord Fawcett had several sons, three of whom were sent to make their lives in new lands. Nothing more was heard from Arthur (sent to darkest Africa) or Marcus (ploughed the Arabian slave routes*). His youngest son, Jebidiah had some success in building cotton plantations in the Deep South of America and married Miss Elspeth of Charleston. Their only daughter, Marybelle married William Arthur Claremont Boston Mathias Jefferson II Jr. of North Carolina and their son Jebidiah (Jeb) continues to make his life amongst the hurley-burley of New Orleans society.

*Not literally ploughed. There would be a lot of sand
The 6th Lord Fawcett (1775 - ) is the current incumbent. Now widowed from his beloved wife, Hermione (who died in mysterious circumstances when Lord Fawcett was on a business trip and picnic in London) he now splits his time between London and his Avon estates. He has one son, Roger Fawcett (1800 - ), the heir apparent, who is unmarried* and one daughter Felicity (1805 - ), currently residing in Venice. His business interests are based in several counties and involve transporting valuable live goods to interested customers**.

* Although there’s nothing wrong in that direction dammit. Nothing at all!

**London Agent – Mr A Thwackham. European Agent – Monsieur Albe Fesse, Paris.  Middle East Agent – Mustapha Harem, Tangiers.
Lord Fawcett makes considerable philanthropic contribution to the denizens of London, such as his work with fallen women and delinquent girls. He also has guardianship of poor orphan, Miss Rapunzel Maskell. His school, the Lowewood Academy for Endowed Girls, is a popular institution, educating the daughters of good families with several scholarships for poor girls.* He also is the patron and founder of the Lowewood Institute for Delinquent and Debauched Young Women.

*Obviously, only those who are clean, tidy, no convictions, no crabs and with all their teeth
